      Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if I file the wrong ITR form?+
If you file an incorrect ITR form, your return is classified as "defective" under Section 139(9). The Income Tax Department will send you a notice, and you must file a corrected return using the right form within 15 days of receiving the notice. Failure to do so will make your return invalid.
      I traded in F&O (Futures & Options). Which form should I use?+
Futures & Options (F&O) trading is classified as business income (non-speculative). Therefore, you cannot file ITR-1 or ITR-2. You must file ITR-3 to report F&O gains or losses.
I have dividend income from foreign shares. Which form should I file?+
Since you hold foreign assets (foreign shares) and earn foreign income (dividends), you must file ITR-2 (or ITR-3 if you have business income). You are not eligible for ITR-1. You must also declare these shares in Schedule FA (Foreign Assets).
Are intraday stock trading gains reported under business?+
Yes. Intraday trading is classified as speculative business income. You must file ITR-3 to declare intraday profits or carry forward intraday trading losses.
